The Computing Research Association (CRA), founded in 1972, is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. Our mission is to strengthen computing research by collaborating with industry, government, and academia. We achieve this by guiding the computing research community, educating policymakers and the public, and fostering a diverse, inclusive, and socially responsible computing research environment.
CRA is seeking a full-time Program Assistant or Program Associate to collaborate with the CRA Committee on Education (CRA-E). This role will offer substantial support for initiatives that amplify the community’s understanding of CRA, its committees, objectives, and services. This position is tailored for a highly driven individual dedicated to supporting the coordination of programs. Additionally, the person hired will assist with administrative tasks. The ability to consistently complete a range of tasks on time, often independently, is crucial. A willingness to broaden one’s awareness of the computing field is a must.
Ideal Candidate:
- Possesses 3-5 years of project management experience, with a focus on organizing both in-person and virtual events/programs.
- Understands accessibility requirements and corresponding services.
- Is an adept communicator, eager learner, and believes in teamwork.
- Can independently handle tasks of various complexities promptly and efficiently.
- Is proactive and driven, with an interest in expanding knowledge in the computing domain.
This position will be directly reporting to CRA’s Director of Educational Initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Coordination: Manage tasks related to assigned CRA-E programs understanding their goals, timelines, budgets, and limitations.
- Event Planning: Arrange physical and virtual meetings, workshops, and webinars. This involves managing logistics such as reservations, accessibility services, A/V equipment, and materials.
- Community Organizing: Engage in community outreach at conferences/events to build connections and promote program opportunities.
- Content Creation: Assist in preparing and distributing content such as brochures, slides, newsletters, meeting records, and reports to stakeholders.
- Communications: Spotlight CRA-E program achievements, update the CRA-E website, and leverage communication tools such as social media and videos to boost outreach.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Mastery in administrative tasks: contact management, timeline tracking, note-taking, calendar management (required).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite, and other informational management tools (required).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (required).
- Team player with excellent organizational and time management abilities (required).
- Eligible to work in the United States (required).
- Live in the D.C. metro area (required).
- Familiarity with marketing, social media, website editing (WordPress preferred), coordination software, database systems, and MailChimp (preferred).
- Assistant level: 1-2 years of program coordination experience (preferred).
- Associate level: 3-5 years of project management experience (preferred).

We execute this mission by leading the computing research community, informing policymakers and the public, and championing a diverse, welcoming, equitable, and socially responsible computing research community.
CRA seeks a full-time employee to join our team as a Research Associate to work on program evaluation projects, data management, and reporting for the CRA Center for Evaluating the Research Pipeline (CERP). As one of CRA’s committees, the mission of CERP is to increase diversity in the field of computing research through evaluation and research. The Center provides data resources and evaluation services to the computing community. CERP’s projects also include activities that support the computing community’s efforts to broaden participation in computing by providing resources and community building opportunities.
The Research Associate will be responsible for data collection, management, and reporting. The team member in this position will manage institutional and individual level survey data collection projects, and support data cleaning and management efforts. They will also be responsible for the complete program evaluation cycle (i.e., planning to reporting) for a selection of programs primarily focused on broadening participation in computing at the higher education level. The Research Associate will interact with members of the computing research community to further develop awareness of CERP and its work. This position will involve some travel to attend meetings, conferences, and workshops.
Creativity, curiosity, attention to detail, organization, and strong verbal and written communication skills are highly desired. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner and be able to take initiative to fulfill responsibilities with a significant level of autonomy. Collaboration and teamwork are integral to this position and CRA’s core values. A willingness to broaden one’s awareness of the computing field and the challenges/hurdles to participation in computing research and PhD programs is a must.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Supporting data management (e.g., data infrastructure support, data cleaning, maintenance)
- Conducting program evaluation at various levels (e.g., developing evaluation plans, logic models)
- Survey management (e.g., creation, distribution)
- Analyzing data (both quantitative and qualitative)
- Project management
- Preparing technical reports and infographics
- Communicating with CERP collaborators and affiliates (e.g., via email, at meetings)
- Promoting CERP’s work through blog posts and presentations
- Supporting CRA on other projects and awards as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a social science or directly related field
- At least 4-5 years of relevant work experience
- Proficient knowledge of statistics and social science research methods
- Experience with data processing and management
- Proficiency with statistical software programs (i.e., SPSS and R)
- Experience supporting or conducting program evaluation
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word and Excel) and G Suite (Google Sheets, Google Docs)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Live in the D.C. metro area
Desired qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD in a social science or directly related field
- Experience with Qualtrics survey platform
- Familiarity with database systems
- Data visualization skills
- Familiarity with LaTeX and Markdown
- Experience working with academic faculty in higher education
