Office of the Chief Research Information Officer

Position Title:
Data Concierge

Professional Staff

Job Description Summary:
The Office of the CRIO (OCRIO) is a joint effort by the University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Kansas Health System to provide an advanced research informatics infrastructure to our researchers and partners. The OCRIO connects researchers with the data and informatics tools they need to be successful, helps to keep those data secure, plays a critical role in supporting collaborations between research and clinical efforts, and otherwise supports the research data needs of the institutions.

The OCRIO is responsible for ensuring our research data informatics infrastructure is secure and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), because research thrives in a FAIR environment. Therefore, we are seeking applicants to a new data concierge position, which will be responsible for connecting researchers to data. The research lifecycle at any academic medical center can be complex and daunting for researchers to navigate. An important part of the role of the data concierge will be to be intimately familiar with the research support services available at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Kansas Health System and to serve as a single point of contact for researchers needing to know about available resources. The data concierge will thus be empowered to refer researchers to the appropriate resources, based on their needs, and follow-up with them to ensure their needs were met. In many cases, researchers will be unaware of the available research support, and the data concierge will help point them to services tailored to their specific project. This is a new role at our institutions and serves as a fantastic opportunity to immediately contribute to the important research being carried out here. The data concierge will serve as a guide to researchers in navigating the research lifecycle and helping them through the data governance process. Furthermore, the data concierge will serve as our chief communicator about the many great resources we have available to researchers, promoting them through web and social media, seminars, meetings, and other channels. The data concierge will also serve as a translator of sorts, facilitating communication among researchers and our IT and informatics staff, who will fulfill their data requests. The data concierge will have diverse responsibilities, from handling data request intake and initial requirements gathering, to helping researchers understand the requirements for secure data storage and reporting on usage of our informatics infrastructure to key stakeholders.
