Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine, invites applications for the position of Department Chair.  The department offers ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.  At the graduate level it offers M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering.   The department has 12 full-time regular faculty and teaching staff.    It collaborates with faculty in the School of Engineering Technology on delivery of some upper-level courses.   In addition to traditional electrical and computer engineering focuses, undergraduates can choose minors in biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, power engineering, renewable energy engineering, and robotics.  Collaborative multi-disciplinary research opportunities abound with such established research centers/labs as the Frontier Institute for Research in Sensor Technologies (FIRST), Virtual Environment and Multimodal Interaction (VEMI) Laboratory, Advanced Structures & Composites Center (ASCC), Maine Center for Research in STEM Education, Climate Change Institute, Aquaculture Research Center, Advanced Computing Group, and Center on Aging.

Qualified applicants for the position are expected to bring outstanding leadership and administrative skills to the department, have a strong research record, articulate a vision for growing the research enterprise in the department, and have the ability to build strong relationships with academic departments and research centers across campus as well as external constituencies including potential students, alumni, and corporations.  Applicants must be committed to quality undergraduate and graduate education.  A strong background in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or closely related discipline, and a Ph.D. are required. The candidate’s credentials must be commensurate with an appointment as a full professor with tenure in the department.
