The Data Science unit at William & Mary seeks applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Data Science (non-tenure eligible) beginning August 10, 2024.
We are interested in a teacher with strong expertise in Data Science who will develop and offer Data Science fundamentals courses. In addition to Data Science majors, interest in data science coursework comes from students pursuing degrees in other disciplines, from the computational and natural sciences to the humanities and social sciences. The successful candidate will develop course offerings for this diverse population, assisting us in our effort to raise data literacy across campus while maintaining our rigorous Data Science program.
The position carries a teaching load of three courses in each of the fall and spring semesters and has an initial 2-year appointment term.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a MS degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a closely aligned discipline by the time the appointment begins.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with an advanced degree in other fields will be considered if they have published work that utilizes extensive big data analytics or have experience working in industry. A Ph.D. degree in the above fields by the time of appointment, and/or demonstrated teaching experience, and previous experience in interdisciplinary environments is desirable,
