CRA-E Career Landscape Workshop Series 2025
Opportunities for PhD recipients interested in teaching-focused faculty careers are growing. Many PhD-granting departments now offer dedicated teaching faculty tracks, while master’s-granting and primarily undergraduate institutions continue to expand their computing programs. Teaching faculty play a vital role in shaping the next generation of computing professionals and often engage in undergraduate research and computing education research.
The CRA-E Career Landscape Workshop Series is a free, virtual event designed to help graduate students, postdocs, and industry professionals explore academic career paths with an emphasis on teaching. Through three interactive sessions, participants will:
- Compare different teaching-focused career paths across institutions.
- Learn how to prepare for these roles, from gaining teaching experience to crafting strong applications.
- Hear directly from experienced faculty about the hiring process, expectations, and professional growth opportunities.
- Engage in small-group networking with faculty and peers pursuing similar career goals.
Each 80-minute session includes:
- A panel presentation featuring faculty in a variety of teaching-focused positions.
- A candid Q&A session where participants can ask panelists about their experiences.
- Breakout discussions for networking and small-group conversations.
If you’re considering a teaching-oriented academic career — or actively preparing to apply — this workshop series will provide the insights, strategies, and connections to help you succeed.
The CRA-E Career Landscape Workshop Series is designed for graduate students, postdocs, and industry professionals who are interested in academic careers with a focus on teaching. Attendees from all computing disciplines are welcome.
