Applications Open for the Heidelberg Laureate Forum

Dear Colleague,

I’m writing to seek your help in generating awareness of and interest in the 7th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), http://www.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org/.

HLF is where “Laureates of mathematics and computer science meet the next generation.”  It brings together Laureates in computing (recipients of the Turing Award and ACM Prize in Computing) and mathematics (Fields Medal, Abel Prize and Nevanlinna Prize) with 200 young researchers.  The event is a mix of presentations by the Laureates, young researcher posters and workshops, as well as social events.  I am always impressed with all the laureates who so eagerly talk with the young researchers to discuss research and share stories.  Click here to view a flyer that describes this event.

The 7th Heidelberg Laureate Forum will be held September 22 – 27, 2019 in Heidelberg, Germany.  To be considered for participation, young researchers can either apply directly www.application.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org or be nominated by a colleague (or professor, mentor or manager) who can attest to the quality of their work.  Nominations will likely carry a bit more weight within the selection process and can be made at  https://application.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org/intern/reg_nom_registration_for.php.  If you or a colleague would like to make a nomination, you will need to use the ACM “Organization code” on the online nomination: ACM63826.  Applications and nominations must be completed by February 15, 2019. Read more about how to apply in the FAQ, https://www.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org/faq/.

The selection of young researchers in computing will be a two-step process.  In the first step, the pool of applications and nominations in computing will be screened and ranked by the ACM Selection Committee.  In the second stage, the top applications/nominations will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee of HFL for final selection.Through the Heidelberg Laureate Forum, ACM is helping to raise the visibility of the computing discipline worldwide.  I hope you will share this information about the event with colleagues and students.  I also hope your department (or school or laboratory or center) will be the source of several applications or nominations.

Vicki
