CRA Directors Erik Russell and Burçin Tamer featured on the Modern Figures Podcast
CRA Director of Programs Erik Russell and CERP Director Burçin Tamer were featured on “Applying Pressure,” Episode 29 of the Modern Figures Podcast. Modern Figures is co-hosted by Drs. Jeremy Waisome and Kyla McMullen from the University of Florida. In this episode, listeners learn about the path that led Erik and Burçin to work in broadening participating in computing and a few powerful stories of the impact of CRA-WP programs such as Grad Cohort and Distributed Research Experiences for Undergraduates. CRA also produces data that informs the community and provides evidence of the effectiveness of intervention programs.
Episode Description: If you’ve watched Disney’s newest hit movie Encanto, you can relate to this episode. We all feel like Luisa at times, but instead of crumbling under the weight of the pressure to address inequities in computing, the Computing Research Association is applying pressure through data-driven, evidenced based initiatives to promote broadening participation. This is Data that’ll tip, tip, tip, the scales towards inclusion.
