David Johnson Elected to National Academy of Engineering

David JohnsonCongratulations to former CRA Board member David Johnson (Columbia University) for being elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).  Johnson served on the CRA Board from 1997 to 2000. He is being recognized for his contributions to the theory and practice of optimization and approximation algorithms.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

This CCC Blog post highlights computer scientists who were elected members (including Johnson). To see a full list of the newly elected members and foreign members, check out the NAE press release.
