The Computing Research Association applauds the introduction of the bipartisan American Science Acceleration Project (ASAP), a campaign to leverage technology to make American science ten times faster by 2030. We want to thank Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Mike Rounds (R-SD) for their continued leadership with this vision to position the United States as the world leader in innovation into the future.

“This effort is exactly what the nation’s research enterprise needs right now,” says Nancy Amato, Chair of the CRA Board of Directors. “If the nation is serious about remaining the world’s premier location for scientific research; if the nation is serious about making big bets in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, high performance computing, and other critical technologies; and if the nation is serious about fulfilling the promises made in the Chips & Science Act, then investing in the scientific infrastructure to drive innovative breakthroughs across scientific and technological fields is a must. CRA, and the computing research community, stand ready to assist however we can.”

We commend both Senators for taking the lead with this important project. We look forward to working with them and all parties to modernize the country’s scientific infrastructure so that the United States remains the world leader in scientific innovation.

In addition to CRA, several other companies and organizations endorsed the campaign, including Microsoft, OpenAI, the Association of American Universities, Google, IEEE-USA, and the Task Force on American Innovation, to name a few.
