Best practices for broadening participation in computing

LEAD: the LEVEL UP BPC Alliance Committee

Despite a boom in computing degree programs across the country, computing continues to suffer from a lack of demographic diversity. When university context is considered (i.e., when the student population on college campuses is considered), women are significantly underrepresented in computing. When society context is considered (i.e., when demographics of the nation is considered), students from different race/ethnicities are significantly underrepresented on college campuses.

This working group will consider questions such as “What are evidence-based best practices for outreach that all computing departments should implement to support/encourage/etc. students from different race/ethnicities to college?” and “What are evidence-based best practices that all computing departments should adopt to encourage the women on college campuses to enroll in computing courses and, potentially, minor/major in computing?”
