On October 26, 2022, Maya Çakmak received her CRA-WP Anita Borg Early Career Award (BECA) from board member Nancy Amato in Kyoto, Japan at the 2022 International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS). CRA-WP is proud to celebrate her work in research and development of in-home assistant robots that can provide independence to those with motor impairments, allow elderly to age in the comfort of their homes, and improve quality of life for users.

Maya has been a major contributor to robotics research, with over 70 authored and co-authored publications since 2007. She has been recognized for her efforts through several awards including the 2015 National Science Foundation Career Award and the 2018 Early Career Spotlight Award. She was also awarded the Sloan Research Fellowship in 2018 which recognizes and rewards outstanding early-career faculty who have the potential to revolutionize their fields of study.
