Professional Development for Teaching-Track Faculty
2025 SIGCSE TS Pre-Symposium Event
With continued growth in CS program enrollments, many PhD-granting departments are expanding their teaching-track faculty to meet increased and diverse demands. The CRA Professional Development Pre-Symposium for Teaching-Track Faculty offers a day of specialized professional development at SIGCSE 2025 for teaching-track faculty, as well as for graduate students and postdocs interested in this career path. Participants will have opportunities to enhance their professional skillsets, connect with colleagues, and discuss career advancement in teaching-track roles.
Event Highlights:
Targeted Professional Development: Sessions focused on departmental service, research, scholarship, and leadership strategies tailored to teaching-track faculty.
Promotion & Advancement Strategies: Guidance on achieving career milestones, promotion, and growth within teaching roles.
Unconference Format: Attendees self-organize topics of interest to foster peer mentoring and collaborative discussion.
Networking Opportunities: Build connections with faculty members across North America in PhD-granting departments.
Travel Support:
We are pleased to offer travel funding to enable attendance at the workshop. This funding is available to applicants who require financial assistance to participate, making it accessible to individuals who may not have pre-existing travel plans for SIGCSE 2025. We strongly encourage applications from individuals at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) and those from groups underrepresented in computing.
Application Information:
Capacity: Limited to 70 participants.
Deadline: Priority will be given to applications received by December 8, 2024. Final applications are due by January 31, 2025 (or when capacity is reached).

Q: How does this event differ from other SIGCSE pre-symposium events?
A: This event is distinct in its focus on professional development and career advancement for teaching-track faculty in research-focused departments. Unlike sessions aimed at new or aspiring educators, this symposium targets faculty actively engaged in teaching roles within PhD-granting programs and centers on the career needs specific to these positions.
Q: Is there a limit on participants?
A: Yes, participation is capped at approximately 70 attendees. Should the number of applicants exceed capacity, participation may be limited by institution.
Q: Is travel funding available to attend the event?
A: Yes, travel funding is available to support participants who require financial assistance to attend. We encourage applicants to indicate their need for travel funding in their application. This funding is intended to make the event accessible, and may include individuals who do not have existing travel plans for SIGCSE 2025.
