The College of Engineering at Louisiana State University invites applications from individuals qualified to lead the Division of Computer Science and Engineering.

Overview of the Division: The mission of the Division of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is to provide a stellar education to undergraduate and graduate students and to build our nationally and internationally known research programs. We provide our undergraduate and graduate students with an outstanding education that prepares them for productive careers in industry, academia, and government and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to solve complex technological problems of modern society. We have a number of research thrusts, including theoretical foundations, systems and architecture, databases and data analytics, software, computational science, digital media, and cybersecurity. We strive for excellence in research, teaching, and service in fundamental and applied aspects of computer science. The Division has 30 faculty, 5 staff, approximately 1100 undergraduate students, and more than 120 graduate students.

Job description overview: The ideal candidate is one who will work with the faculty, staff, and administration on building and sustaining a contemporary strategic vision for the Division. Candidates are expected to have significant academic and/or industrial experience and be nationally/internationally recognized in their area of expertise. Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or in a related field; the qualifications supporting a tenured full professor rank; an ability to maintain an internationally recognized research team in their area of expertise; and the ability to teach CSE courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Previous leadership and administrative experience is highly valued.The Chair is responsible for supporting and advancing the Division’s teaching, research, and service activities as well as managing Division needs, resources, budgets, and personnel. In addition, the Chair is expected to exhibit a commitment to diversity and take a leadership role in development efforts tied to external funding and interactions with alumni, industry (including the Industry Advisory Committee), and friends of the Division. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Engineering and is the primary liaison between the Division and the College.

The appointment is expected to begin in Fall 2024.
