Inaugural Dean, New School

William & Mary (W&M) invites nominations and applications for the position of inaugural dean of a new school joining computer science, data science, applied science, and physics—the first new school at W&M in over fifty years. The four units that comprise the new school share a strong commitment to engaging in innovative, externally-funded research and graduate training while simultaneously providing exceptional undergraduate education. Because these four units—until now housed within Arts & Sciences at W&M—are all PhD-granting, highly productive STEM units, they have unique leadership needs and require more autonomy (budgetary, curricular, and organizational) to reach their goals. In addition, all four units feature vibrant graduate programs that nurture the growth of a distinctive culture focused on research, external grants, and career preparation for scholars and future academics.

Reporting to Provost Peggy Agouris, the inaugural dean will provide visionary leadership to unite the four departments into a cohesive academic unit, propel the new school forward, and build its national reputation. A key emphasis will be on securing additional faculty, as well as growing research, grant funding, and the number of PhD students. The school should be a hub for interdisciplinary activity across campus.
