Overview

Are you in the mid stages of a career in academia, industry or at a government lab? Are you interested in interacting with leading women in your field that can mentor you and give you advice?

If so, participate in one of our Career Mentoring Workshops!

When you attend a Mid-Career Mentoring Workshop, you will receive mentoring and advice on topics such as how to: prepare for promotion to a more senior position, be an effective leader, build collaborations and start new research initiatives, and balance work and life.

CRA-W offers three different types of Mid-Career Mentoring Workshops, for attendees who are:

  • Mid-CMW Research – in the middle stages of a research career in academia.
  • Mid-CMW Lab – in the middle stages of a research career in an industry or government research lab.
  • Mid-CMW Education – in the middle stages of a career in teaching and undergraduate education.

Eligibility

You are eligible to attend a Mid Career Mentoring Workshop program, if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Identify as a woman
  • Mid-career as a faculty member (i.e. Associate professor) with equivalent experience (i.e. 6 plus years since graduate school).
  • Mid-career as a researcher in an industry or government lab with equivalent experience (i.e. 6 plus years since graduate school).
  • Interested in preparing herself for advancement to a senior level position.
  • Affiliated with an institution, industry lab, or government lab in the United States or its territories.

If there are extenuating circumstances for applying beyond the timeframe listed in the eligibility requirements, please make sure you address this in the application. Extenuating Circumstances beyond an applicant’s control include, but are not limited to:

  • Documented medical condition or serious illness
  • Documented learning disability
  • Death of a family member or friend
  • Involuntary call to active military duty
  • Maternity/family leave

Our next Mid Career Mentoring Workshop will be held on March 8, 2017 in Seattle, WA (collocated with SIGCSE 2017).

Travel & Financial Support

Funding may be available for participants of Mid Career Mentoring Workshops if they meet the eligibility requirements listed below. Participants will be notified of any travel assistance upon acceptance to the workshop. If funded, the participant will submit a reimbursement form and be directly reimbursed, up to the approved limit, for reasonable expenses incurred such as travel, lodging, and meals associated with the workshop.

You qualify for financial support for a Mid Career Mentoring Workshop (Mid CMW-E/R/L) if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • A mid-career faculty member (i.e. Associate professor) or researcher in an industrial or government lab with equivalent experience (i.e. 6 plus years since graduate school).
  • A member of the computing field community.
  • Affiliated with an institution, industry lab, or government lab in the United States or its territories.
  • Interested in preparing myself for advancement to a senior level position.
  • A woman.

NOTE: Priority will be given to Mid Career Mentoring Workshop applicants who are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or its territories.
