Department of Commerce’s New National AI Advisory Committee Members Announced


Recently, the Department of Commerce announced the appointment of 27 experts to the new National AI Advisory Committee (NAIAC). Among them were several individuals affiliated with CRA:

Created in response to the National AI Initiative Act of 2020, the committee will provide recommendations to the President and the National AI Initiative Office on various topics pertaining to AI such as international competitiveness, scientific developments, research and workforce issues. Committee members will serve three-year terms and may serve two consecutive terms at the discretion of the secretary.

“The expertise of the NAIAC will be critical in helping to ensure the United States leads the world in the ethical development and adoption of AI, provides inclusive employment and education opportunities for the American public, and protects civil rights and civil liberties in our digital age.” Alondra Nelson, head of the Office of Science and Technology and Deputy Assistant to the President

The committee plans its first meeting on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, which will be open to the public via webcast.  The National Institute of Standards and Technology will provide administrative support to the committee.
