The University of Iowa Computer Science Department invites applications for tenure- and instructional-track faculty positions in all areas and at all ranks effective August 2025. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Informatics, Computer Science & Engineering, and Data Science, as well as the Masters and PhDs in Computer Science and Informatics. The Department is home to well-established externally-funded research programs in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and pattern recognition; formal methods and programming languages; health- and human-centric computing; systems; theory and algorithms; and computer science education. The Department is growing rapidly, and will move into new facilities in 2027.

For tenure-track positions, we are seeking creative and collaborative scholars at all ranks and from all areas of Computer Science interested in working in a collegial, supportive, and multidisciplinary environment. We are particularly interested in candidates who bridge or strengthen our current areas of research. Successful candidates must demonstrate potential for research and teaching excellence in the environment of a major research university. Candidates for tenured positions will already have an established record of funded research and teaching excellence. A record of scholarly publications in leading venues (commensurate with rank) and prior teaching experience are desirable. Responsibilities  include conducting innovative research in the candidate’s area of expertise, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate student research, and making service contributions to the Department, the College, the University, and the discipline.

For instructional-track positions, we seek candidates who are passionate about teaching computer science, have expertise in computer science education, and can teach broadly across our discipline; currently, we have specific need in databases, systems, security, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Successful instructional-track candidates must demonstrate an aptitude for achieving excellence in computer science education at the university level; prior teaching experience is desirable. Responsibilities include teaching, curriculum development, curriculum evaluation, and making appropriate service and outreach contributions.

Candidates for all positions must hold a PhD in computer science or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment. We are committed to supporting the professional development of all faculty and have a strong record of accommodating faculty couples.
