Nominations Open for the 2018 Abie Awards
By Roshni Kasad, Director, Academic Initiatives, AnitaB.org
AnitaB.org is a global organization working to support and advance women technologists in computing careers. We celebrate and recognize the success of women technologists with a series of awards presented at the annual Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) to honor women making significant contributions to technology. Among the awards presented this year, two are specifically for professionals:
- The Emerging Leader Abie Award in honor of Denice Denton recognizes a junior faculty member for high-quality research and significant positive impact on diversity. The award includes a prize of $7,000.
- The Technical Leadership Abie Award recognizes a woman who led or developed a product, process, or innovation that made a notable impact on business or society. Eligible nominees must work on projects that require deep technical knowledge and must demonstrate a commitment to increasing the representation of women in technology. The award includes a prize of $20,000.
Encourage your students to nominate themselves for the Student of Vision Abie Award. The Student of Vision Abie Award recognizes and celebrates a student who has a unique vision of how technology innovation can solve important problems, and how inspiring more women in technology enables meaningful innovation. Students will submit a short video about their vision for the future. The winner will receive $7,000 US dollars and a scholarship to attend GHC in September 2018 in Houston, Texas.
