CRA was sad to learn of the loss of former Board member William A. Wulf. He was an outstanding leader in the computing research community and will be greatly missed. We are grateful for Bill’s involvement in CRA and his deep engagement with and service to the computing research community. Our thoughts are with Anita, his family, and all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
The Computing Research Association (CRA) has selected Lynne Parker, Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of the AI Tennessee Initiative at the University of Tennessee, as the recipient of the 2023 CRA Distinguished Service Award for her unparalleled impact on the computing research community. Parker has displayed strategic vision, dedication, and forward-looking perspective while leading the nation’s strategic approach to AI research, workforce development, and infrastructure.
The Computing Research Association has selected Charles L. Isbell, Dean and John P. Imlay, Jr. Chair of the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Computing, as the recipient of the 2023 CRA A. Nico Habermann Award, in recognition of his substantial impact on improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the computing community.
The Education Committee of the Computing Research Association (CRA-E) is proud to announce three recipients of the 2023 CRA-E Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentoring Award: Yi-Chieh (Jessica) Wu from Harvey Mudd College, William Wang from University of California, Santa Barbara, and Nanette Veilleux from Simmons University.
These outstanding individuals are being recognized for providing exceptional mentorship, undergraduate research experiences, and, in parallel, guidance on admission and matriculation of their students to research-focused graduate programs in computing.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently announced its 2022 Fellows. The newly elected Fellows are being recognized for their scientific and socially notable achievements spanning their careers. Several individuals involved with CRA have been elected Fellows in the section on Information, Computing and Communication
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) just announced their 2023 class of Elevated Fellows. Among them are members of the community with past affiliations and/or involvement with the Computing Research Association and the Computing Community Consortium activities.
Congratulations to the recipients of the 2023 Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award. This year’s nominees are a very impressive group. A number of them were commended for making significant contributions to more than one research project, several are authors or coauthors on multiple papers, others have created papers for major conferences, as well as producing software, apps and algorithms.
Today, ACM named 67 Distinguished Members for outstanding contributions to the field. ACM has named Carla E. Brodley the recipient of the inaugural ACM Frances E. Allen Award for Outstanding Mentoring. She is recognized for significant personal mentorship and leadership in creating systemic programs that have increased diversity in computer science by creating mentoring opportunities for thousands at Northeastern and other universities across the United States. Brodley is a member of the CRA Board and former member of the CRA-WP Board.
The Computing Research Association today announced it has selected Katherine Yelick, the Robert S. Pepper Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, as the recipient of the 2022 CRA Distinguished Service Award for her outstanding and sustained service contributions to the computing research community.
