Overview

The biennial Career Mentoring Workshop was offered by the Computing Research Association February 24 and 25, 2014 at the Westin Georgetown Hotel in Washington, DC. This workshop provided career advice and mentoring activities for post docs, assistant professors, and individuals just starting as industrial researchers in computer science. The workshop consisted of a series of panels and was interspersed with opportunities to network with senior researchers and representatives from government agencies.

The panels offered at this workshop cover a wide range of topics. 2014 featured a new session held at NSF. After the first day, participants used their new knowledge to refine one-pagers on their research. On the second day, participants had the opportunity to visit NSF and discuss their one-pagers with NSF CISE Program Directors.

Other sessions included: Planning Your Research Career; Career Networking; Teaching, Mentoring and Managing Students; Preparing a Tenure Package; Time Management and Family Life; Advice from Early Career Faculty; and Writing Grant Proposals.
