The goal of this workshop is to establish a computing research community working at the forefront of neural interface design, and integrate it into the broader ecosystem in this field. This is done by creating roadmaps of neural interface applications, their computational needs, and identifying how hardware and software must evolve to meet those needs, as well as envisioning how computing advances can re-imagine the possibilities in neural interfacing.
The workshop will involve active brainstorming, interspersed with short talks to stimulate discussion, to chart the course of this field. We are inviting researchers from computing, including computer architecture, chip design, accelerator design, and software systems, along with experts in neural interface design, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroscientists. We are also inviting members of government agencies, such as the NSF, NIH, and FDA. Beyond scientific and technological roadmaps, we also hope to develop clear recommendations for creating funding avenues for interdisciplinary research in this area, and possible recommendations for neural interfaces curricula to be integrated into existing computer science curricula across the country.
