The pandemic is still ongoing but we are facing a new and different set of challenges that are both surprising and yet also somehow predictable. The authors of the Pandemic Informatics: Preparation, Robustness, and Resilience paper have produced a March 22nd, 2021 Addendum to address current issues.
CCC is excited to announce the new website feature, “CIFellows Spotlight”, which will highlight the work of the Computing Innovation Fellows (CIFellows) going forward.
As a continuation of our 2020 series, CCC has released two more papers titled: “Taking Stock of the Present and Future of Smart Technologies for Older Adults and Caregivers” and “Imagine All the People: Citizen Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Computational Research.”
AI for Good Global Summit hosted a webinar on AI to Prevent Modern Slavery, Human Trafficking and Forced and Child Labour today and featured Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Executive Council Member Nadya Bliss (Executive Director of the Global Security Initiative at Arizona State University).
Many of today’s AI systems have biases against people of color and the broader diversity beyond the white, male, affluent, and able-bodied developers of most computer and robot systems. We need to be sure that when autonomous robots make their decisions, the designer’s flaws and judgments are not “baked in.”

David A. Patterson, who received the 2017 ACM A.M Turing Award “for pioneering a systematic, quantitative approach to the design and evaluation of computer architectures with enduring impact on the microprocessor industry,” shared a presentation titled Architecture Innovation Accelerates Artificial Intelligence at the first day of the Virtual Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF).
CCC Chair Emeritus Mark D. Hill of the University of Wisconsin-Madison recently prepared a well-received general-audience talk for Participatory Learning And Teaching Organization (PLATO).
How can computing technology impact global health, particularly with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic? Shwetak Patel, 2018 ACM Prize in Computing winner and CCC council member, addressed this question on the second day of the Virtual Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) 2020.
