AAAS holds an annual meeting to foster a better understanding of science by the press and the public. The CCC has been increasing CS presence at the annual meeting, and you too can submit your ideas to present next year by April 16th, 2020.

AAAS Honors 2019 Elected Fellows


The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently announced its 2019 elected Fellows. The Fellows are recognized with this lifetime honor for their extraordinary achievements in advancing science. Fellows are elected annually by the AAAS Council from the list of approved nominations from the Section Steering Groups. Several individuals involved with CRA have been elected Fellows to the Section on Information, Computing & Communication.

Recently we posted a blog about Health in Your Pocket: Diagnosing and Treating Disease with Smartphones, a press briefing that CCC members, Elizabeth (Beth) Mynatt, Shwetak Patel, and Gregory Hager presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Advance of Science (AAAS) in early February. The focus of this post is on the Internet of Things (IoT). CCC Chair Beth Mynatt, CCC Executive Council Member Ben Zorn, and CCC Council Member Shwetak Patel were on a panel moderated by CCC Director Ann Drobnis on What Happens When Everyday Objects Become Internet Devices: A Science Policy Agenda.

CRA at AAAS Family Science Days


The Computing Research Association had an action-packed weekend engaging the public with science at AAAS Family Science Days, February 13-14. There was a high turnout of families from the Washington, D.C. area who were eager to learn more about science and have some fun with hands on activities.
