211 participants gathered February 9-10 in Cincinnati, Ohio, for the Tri-State Women in Computing Conference (TRIWiC 2018). The conference hosted three plenary speakers: Liz Mundy, the New York Times best selling author of Code Girls: The Untold Story of American Women Code Breakers of World War II, Wendy Lea, CEO of Centrifuse, and ACM distinguished speaker Qi Han. The speakers were enthusiastically received. It was a particular treat to have Qi Han deliver the opening talk Saturday morning, which was both fascinating and inspirational. Distinguished speaker Qi Han was wildly cheered with 96 % of surveyed participants agreeing “this type of session was valuable for me.”
In addition to tech talks, panel discussions, lightning talks workshops, and job fair, this conference ran an extremely successful speed mentoring session. Faculty, industry participants, graduate students and even upper division undergraduates volunteered as mentors answering questions about graduate school, internships, careers, or just school and life challenges.
