CRA-W Grad Cohort Workshop sponsorship by SIGCHI
CRA-W Grad Cohort Workshop 2017
Women and minorities are severely underrepresented in all areas of computing, even while demand for computing professionals is growing.
“The CRA-W Grad Cohort Project has been building a national community of re- searchers, with the goal of improving their graduate school experience and increasing retention. Grad Cohort is a two-day mentoring workshop, where students present research posters, learn re- search skills, and are mentored by successful inspirational senior women researchers, who serve as role models. They learn practical approaches to navigate and succeed in graduate school (e.g., how to pick a thesis topic, develop research ideas, write papers, and attend conferences). Role models provide personal insights on the challenges and rewards of their own careers. The workshop offers networking opportunities and peer support to students at similar stages in graduate school”
In 2016, SIGCHI provided a Bronze level of sponsorship and with our partnership, a record 511 women masters and PhD students attended, representing 159 institutions from the United States and Canada and 165 have research interests in Human Computer Interaction.
We wish the CRA-W Grad Cohort Workshop 2017 well!
